Joel Tjintjelaar is a black and white photographer born in the netherlands. Joel ended up going to law school. When he got his first camera all he could think about was photography. After law school he became a writer. He later picked up his camera for a second time and realized photography was his calling.
Tjintjelaar work shows extreme contrast with the use of black and white photographs. His photographs show movement of cars and people. He shows how people are moving so fast. His ideals from what I can tell is that he wants to show his view of the world. Joel’s definition of his work is fine art photography. Fine art photography according to Joel is making photography to show the world how it is. He shows the world the difference between the good and the bad and that there’s a balance. Tjintjelaar sees the world as a place of good and evil and he can see that perfect balance the zen. He wants to portray that.
Tjintjelaar influenced my work through his. He showed me how to take make a contrasting image not be a clashing image. His work also showed me how to take architecture photos. The Project I am most proud of is my architecture. The final things I learned from him were how to create feeling and color with black and white photography.

There are a few differences between my pictures and Tjintelaar's. Mine were taken in Ann Arbor, Mi on the UofM campus. His were taken in New York and London. The windows on his building are slanted while mine are straight. The Skyline of NYC is a lot bigger than the UofM campus skyline. Also his pictures are darker than mine with a bit more contrast.
